January 2010

Soulfruit caught wind early Wednesday morning that they were invited to sing the National Anthem at the New Year's Eve NBA game held by the Houston Rockets versus their rival the Dallas Mavericks. Soulfruit was not able to stay, but definitely help secure the win for the Houston Rockets as they won the game against the Dallas Mavericks. Soulfruit is looking forward to coming back to during NBA Playoff time to bring some good vibes back into Toyota Center.

No rest for the weary as the group was off to Austin, TX for the Greater Mt. Zion New Year's Eve Extravaganza. Soulfruit would be live in concert as the patrons were treated to a variety of musical styles with Gospel Stars and Tim Clifton.  Happy New Year!

The Mad Ones Gain One
December 2009

Soulfruit was pleased to be a part of MAD House Cafe by New Creation Christian Fellowship of San Antonio, Texas. A night of poetry and pastries brewed freshly for young Christians and others wondering what makes us feel the way we do. The special thing about this platform was for Soulfruit to perform songs they seldom get a chance to express during services like "Every Step" from the VENERATE project.

Over the Hill
November 2009

Soulfruit spent the weekend all over the great state of Texas. Here's the gang at Austin's Hill Country with a full band for an explosive purity conference with Goodie of the Mosaic in Los Angeles, CA ... The conference was a hot ticket as the registrations made the show start up late and the seats were full. A perfect platform for a Godly message.

Hallows Eve Sweep
November 2009

Soulfruit set out on what turned out to be an extremely ambitious weekend at the end of October that started with "The Fall Feast" at The Fountain of Praise and came to a summation with "The D Spot" at Higher Dimension Church. This was all the adventure Soulfruit could handle during a two-day span.

Performing outside is something Soulfruit is very familiar with, but they were not expecting 42 degree weather for this Friday evening. The Minister of Youth was very gracious and spent some time with our favorite group after the performance and Vanessa shared some time with First Lady Mia Wright, whom was wearing a costume for the festival.

Soulfruit was at St. Agnes for "The Turn Around" and unfortunately there were no pictures taken by our staff, so we will just say the performance of Hands Up was pretty sufficient and they were gone to the aforementioned Fall Feast.

The next morning, Soulfruit was at Mt. Moriah Church for a rally for youth empowerment and awareness. The group's first time at the church was a nice experience after meeting everyone and sharing some laughs.

Tyren belts out some inspring notes as he shows the youth how he praises God.

Then the group asks that everyone throw some notes into the air and declare that its a beautiful day.

The noon sun was in their eyes, but that did not stop these kids from having a good time.

Soulfruit gets airborne to test the stage durability.

The staff was able to capture Soulfruit pouring everythng they had into this performance. Fresh off the stage and on the road for a recording and performance at Higher Dimension.

This photograph was shot while driving to Higher Dimension for "The D Spot" and will be reported on later this week. Please stay tuned for teh story as well as a video-guided exclusive tour through the new Higher Dimension facilites that have never been seen before.

Crossing the Line
October 2009

For the consecutive third year, Soulfruit has done the annual youth explosion in Jennings, Louisiana. The kids are growing up fast and were introduced to the way we venerate. Making an adjustment after the eating began, Soulfruit changed from dress shoes to Converse All-Stars to eliminate making further drawings on the gymnasium floor. This year was different because Soulfruit did not have their runaway smash hit liaison, Trevon Hill. In 2008, Mr. Hill, an event in himself, distracted the young ladies with professionalism and vanity. He truly was an irreplaceable commodity, but Soulfruit was able to have one of their leading editors take his place in some photographs.

Soulfruit poses with Pastor Perkins after the performance at the event.

Tyren agrees that the Lakers may take it all the way this year.

Vanessa asks about their lives and encourages them to listen to their parents.

Standing-in for Trevon Hill was hard work, but it had to be done.

Valuable Time
October 2009

Getting on down the interstate is a weekly tradition for our favorite trio. A commission held deep to heart by Tyren, Vanessa, and Toby. This adventure had them in San Antonio for a special service at New Creation Christian fellowship. The church was celebrating its 24th year of "creation" under God through Dr. Claudette Copeland and Bishop Copeland, whom is pictured below.

Soulfruit was blessed to come back based off of their collective DNA, which is simply a two-stranded helix comprised of biblical principals and celebration. The church was filled with worship and high-energy on this day because God is awesome. Of course, the second service was on another level because they ate breakfast and drank coffee, but that's our little secret...

A special thanks to Lovell (pictured) and Rose, who were instrumental in getting us to San Antonio.

Soulfruit was caught here approaching the stage in a moment after a short video on Friday Night Live, which was the first event the group fellowshiped with New Creation. In this video, Sonny Kelly portays the famed Crocodile Hunter and is on a mission to funk crunk youth. We know you’re laughing reading this, because we are too even though were writing it. Way to go Sonny, you have to be fearless to do what we are called to do!

New Creation is also a church family that has a good generation representation. This means that all age groups are here like a family reunion to give the church a hope and a future.

Speaking of family, Toby calls the family back in Houston, Texas.

The doors of the church are definitely open and if you are in the San Antonio area, we encourage you to trek to New Creation at 8700 Fourwinds Drive. (Soulfruit was not compensated for this plug)

Abundant Love
October 2009

Soulfruit spent some time over at Abundant Love located in the northern region of Houston, Texas. This assembly was simply a call to worship for the believer. An event designed for the youth, but enjoyed by everyone as Pastor Carrington gave a message about being a blessing; which is what is received from the Lord if a man has a pure heart and clean hands. Therefore, if that man is an oak tree, he has branches that are blessings for everyone else. The message comes from Psalm 24 of your bible.

Living Single
October 2009

Soulfruit swings up to Richardson, Texas (suburb of Dallas) on the heels of leaving New Faith in Houston, Texas to spread love to North Dallas Bible Fellowship SINGLE’S NIGHT. This was especially a pleasure for Soulfruit as they were special guest on the last event of the year. One thing we can bank on for most night events are refreshments. The benefit at North Dallas is that they always have a good spread available and the cheesecake squares did not disappoint anyone. The food for thought dropped by Pastor Rick Cooper was about Christ having all comfort and there is no reason to take all your worries to people whom are unable to relate. God knows everything there is to know about anything. Pastor Cooper says, “Why would you want advice from someone who stands on a hill top?” He states that you would want advice from someone whom has been in the trenches; someone who can relate to any dispute.

After performing with their hearts for God unto the people, Soulfruit was approached by a young college student by the name of Krystal and she explained that in her Humanities class that they are writing essays on musical artists and she has chosen to write her essay on the crew. Of course, Soulfruit was really excited and Toby requested that the paper get emailed to us when she completes the essay. We encourage excellence and hope to see her do well on the paper and remember that this website will be invaluable for information.

A special thanks to the members of Friendship West Baptist Church for traveling the distance to celebrate life with NDBF and Soulfruit.

Yes We Can, Feel the Wind
October 2009

(Special Two Event Feature)

Soulfruit takes a quick day trip to Chicago, Illinois for Trinity United Church of Christ's Singles First Friday function. Soulfruit travels to Chicago on the eve of the 2016 Olympic announcement. President Obama and Oprah Winfrey were petitioning on the city's behalf to host the games. Without so much of a blink, Chicago was knocked out of the running. The news hit while Soulfruit was in mid-air over the Midwest.   The main contributor to this very page was not able to report on the function as usual, so we obtained a quick word from Soulfruit's manager of operations, Mr. Andres Adams. He says,

The event went pretty smooth. We had some minor technical difficulties, but we worked through them and I believe the people were blessed by the message.

Nothing says visitor quite like coffee mugs with city names

Soulfruit was right back to business the following their afternoon plane arrival from Chicago, traveling to Arlington, Texas to celebrate the sixth anniversary of New Life Fellowship Church. Now with the literary contributor back in the fold, Soulfruit jumped in the Green Room (Official Road Vehicle) and discussed business and slept while the rain was wrapping around the van. Once the group arrived, they relaxed until the 9 PM sound check, which was scheduled at the church due to the early start of the first service. Pastor Pugh had two three simple request of songs, he wanted Shoop, Made It, and Celebrator to close out the service with a bang. The celebration was wonderful, New Life put on an awesome production and video montages to show how far god has taken them and where is taking them in the future. Soulfruit was truly honored to be there in the presence of compassion and excellence. Also to sing about remembrance on a day where Pastor Pugh wanted to highlight the special significance on remembering what God has done for you and making a physical record of those "God Moments." He describes these moments as the unexplainable moments where god steps in and shows you what he is able to do and leaves you speechless.

A special thanks to Kim See and Larry for making sure everything was tight and precise for the Sunday service.

Return of the Cliffers
October 2009

Soulfruit returned to Dallas five days later to show the Oakcliff Bible Fellowship youth how we celebrate. Meeting up with Pastor Keith Williams Jr. in the process to make a memorable event for the youth as they were encouraged to be the light everywhere they travel.

The event was also shared with Vanessa as she celebrated her twentieth birthday doing the most valuable action she could have possibly been doing, missionary work. As an impromptu surprise, Toby and Tyren decide to croon happy birthday to Vanessa after performing "Made It" off the Homegrown project. Vanessa started to sing to herself with Toby and Tyren once the emotions built up too high. A classic moment indeed!

Building Relationships
September 2009

"Some of you all want to know how to find the right person," says Rev. Nakia Alford. Later she went on to say something subtle and profound, "...and some of you need to know how to break up!" Words that softened hearts all over the room. These were the topics of sermonette at Singles Night Out presented by Friendship West Baptist Church. The church will be providing classes on how to properly engage in Christian relationships and if it's not the right one, then they will show you how to end them. Seems like the moments in life that we let everyone find their way on their own instead of fostering them to conflict resolutions. Soulfruit was able to provide relational advice due to Toby Hill's holy matrimony while performing hits of the VENERATE album like Times Three, Every Step, and Worship.

Misouri City's Moment
September 2009

Sometimes there are moments were the simple things in life make you the happiest. Perhaps the flowers while passing your neighbor's home or the birds chirping when you wake up in  the morning. Soulfruit had one of those moments while performing in front of First UMC's youth along with their parents that knew Soulfruit was coming through.

The New Frontier
September 2009

Our favorite two men and a lady are fresh off the stage at New Creation Christian Fellowship in San Antonio, TX. This was Soulfruit’s first experience with the NCCF family and they were welcomed with widely opened arms. We are glad to announce that Soulfruit will be back once more this year and next year as well under unspecified events. Stay tuned for an update on concrete tour dates. Special thanks to Bishop Copeland, Youth Pastor Sonny Kelly with his high energy and Keith Scott, who arguably may have the most exciting stadium voice since Michael Buffer (owns trademark phrase "Let's get ready to rumble!").

NDCBF
August 2009

Wrapping up a nice month with a concert in Dallas at North Dallas Community Bible Fellowship is a good way to swing the summer out and usher in the fall harvest. Soulfruit slid on the stage with Christian artist, Monty G and Flame. These artists were perfect complements to each for the concert. There was a wonderful mixture on entertainment and doctrinal substance for everyone to nibble on.

Soulfruit was proud to be a part of the Dying 2 Live Youth Conference with Micah Lewis and her committee of committed folks to represent 21st century Christianity in front of students at Prairie View A & M University. Although it was intended to be a youth conference; the young adults’ ages 18-25 years old probably got the most out of the two day conference. Soulfruit was also elated to see Pastor Blake Wilson as he delivered a powerful message on knowing God and what healing means.

Bowling and Barbeque
August 2009

Family and friends joined Tyren Covington of Soulfruit to celebrate his 31st birthday for an evening of barbeque and bowling in Houston, TX. The event started at the famous Spring Creek Barbeque establishment known for the ribs and warm dinner rolls. Tyren made a short speech to the approximately twenty guests and then lead the party caravan from Pearland to the quaint town of Bellaire to take part in the second portion of the event: the bowling! Shoes and socks were flying everywhere while everyone scrambled to get the going in the crowded bowling alley. As most games begin, there are always plenty of smiles to go around and child-like banter. However; when the last frames come up, things get tighter among the competitors and the smiles are erased for focused stares. The last few frames shaped up to be exciting as Tyren and Toby where going to the wire with Toby’s oldest son trailing by only a dozen points to come back and take the game. Let’s watch the highlights of the comeback shall we…

Soulfruit Returns
July 2009

Always there to serve the community, Soulfrruit returns to St. John’s Downtown to upon Pastor Rasmus’ request. Just days after a Sunday morning concert with the youth, they return to worship with Dr. Freddie Haynes III of Friendship-West of Dallas, TX and Liz Vaughn as well. It was a wonderful Wednesday night service in which the congregation was treated to excellence from the three. The video of the performance was captured and should be arriving online momentarily.

European Fruit
July 2009

Sunday, Soulfruit was worshiping at St. John’s Downtown and was approached by representatives of a new movement in Scotland that could create performing arts venues of Christian artists. This was an eye-opening moment for Soulfruit to capitalize on globalization of their ministry. The film-makers were here to collect footage and interview key people in the church. However, Soulfruit does not know the specifics of the documentary; it is very intriguing to know that one is on the way. Further proving that this is a global community already; Soulfruit learned that the European guest were sent to St. John’s by our good friend, Pastor Myron Cloyd.

Louisiana State Baptist Convention, Part II
July 2009

Soulfruit is traveling to Louisiana for the State Convention for the 5th year in a row. The event was held in the state capital of Baton Rouge. It was held at St. Mary’s Baptist Church. For those that are unfamiliar to ways that conventions tend to operate, the church behaves as the host (convention center) for every Baptist church in the state to have several services in worship. You would be pressed to find more activity in one building in the rest of the state when the convention is happening. Soulfruit venerated with the congregation and then listened to the message based on standing in our faith from Ephesians. Afterwards, Soulfruit went out to eat with Pastor Mabry at the soon-to-be-sponsored favorite eatery, Chili’s.

This trip was also the sparkling debut for the new Dodge Caravan aptly named the Green Room. You may ask yourself, why would Soulfruit call a white van, the Green Room? Well one of the features of the van is an overhead console with two DVD screens and green lighting edged on the console for a really nice touch.

Desert Destination (**Special Edition**)

Soulfruit has been reaching far and wide this summer and where could the perfect place to reach be other than home. The State of Arizona welcomed Soulfruit with open arms at
First Institutional Baptist Church for the City of Hope Concert in Phoenix, AZ along with the hilarious Broderick Rice. Things started off fast as Soulfruit stepped off the plane and were greeted by the welcome committee and chauffeured to the hotel. While waiting outside, Toby met a rock band outside aptly named God Rocks and stopped for a photograph as he explained what he was doing in Arizona and what may happen in the future. Perhaps a Soulfruit-God Rocks collaboration is in order? Arizona also means that there were able to find a Soulfruit pioneer, Demond Hawkins. It was one of the best times for them because of the friends and family reunions occurring over the weekend stay.

Special mention goes to Broderick Rice for his heart-delighting performance along with their ride together back to the hotel after the concert where Mr. Rice proceeded to make everyone laugh continuously.

Practise Makes Perfect
July 2009

Soulfruit is proud to re-present the classic Practise album, which made its debut in 2002. Join Soulfruit and take a trip back down memory lane when you purchase the re-mastered album with all new, fresh packaging. Transcendent songs like Radio, How to Love, and Too Far really peels through the speakers like never before. Allow the soulful sounds of Toby Hill, Ron North, and Tyren Covington be your ally as you walk out your faith or dance it out if it becomes necessary. However; if there is anyone wondering why Vanessa is not included on the Practise for your auditory enjoyment? It is due largely in part that she was only twelve years old at the time, which also further emphasizes that this is a classic opus to be observed.

Thank You Mr. Jackson
July 2009

For three generations, Michael Jackson has shown us the pinnacle of musical excellence. He was the artist and performer that everyone was secretly as well as openly chasing. How many of us remember trying to moonwalk or do the “Smooth Criminal” lean? And if it didn’t work, we would take off our shoes and get on the kitchen floor to try again or perhaps stick a leg out in front to create some balance for the lean. The cultural effect was tremendous as he helped anchor the economy from soft drinks, video games, and toys. It can also be argued that he is the reason many of the last three generations of singers have chosen to sing. Soulfruit has recognized that Michael Joseph Jackson has played a key role in developing an excitement as well as passion for music. The proof is inside the performance and vocals of Tyren Covington during the song “Hands Up” on the Practise album where he does his rendition of the MJ leg kick at the end of the song as well as the patented hiccup. Soulfruit believes that God has given gifts to bridge gaps between adults and children as he gives gifts to us all. Soulfruit knows that through Christ, they are more than conquerors. And even though popular music has lost its standard; we all know that God is in control and we occupy until Christ returns. For now, we salute Michael Joseph Jackson and truly appreciate his contributions to music.
